Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission ist in meiner Sammlung von Filmprogrammen der dritte Kompilationsfilm und erschien in der März-Ausgabe 1959. Ähnlich wie das Filmprogramm, erschien der Film am 6. März 1959 in den deutschen Kinos. Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission setzt sich erneut aus zwei englischen Filmen zusammen: Sherlock Holmes in Washington und Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon. Ebenso wie die beiden anderen Rathbone-Kompilationsfilme, gilt diese Synchronfassung als verschollen.
Cover und Inhalt
Schaut man sich das Cover an, so wirkt dieses Programm ein wenig zurückhaltender und nicht so spannend wie die anderen beiden. Der Augenkontakt zwischen Basil Rathbone und Marjorie Lord baut eine Beziehung/Spannung auf. Während ich die Schrift bei den anderen beiden Filmprogrammen spannend gestaltet war, ist dies bei Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission einfacher gehalten und nicht so schnörkelig. Ein witzige Detail ist jedoch die Nummerierung bei dieser Ausgabe, die wohl handschriftlich geschrieben wurde und dann erst kopiert wurde.
Auf der Rückseite sieht man wieder einige Szenen aus dem Film. Der Fokus liegt hier ganz klar auf die Hypnose von Basil Rathbone. Auch die Szene von Nigel Bruce, der fast von dem Dach fällt, wird hier dargestellt.
Klappt man das Programm auf, so gibt es diesmal keine Inhaltsangabe von fast zwei Seiten. Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission beschränkt sich hier auf eine 3/4 Seite. Ich finde es sehr gelungen, dass man genug Platz gelassen hat, den Titel und die Schauspieler zu nennen. Das wirkt irgendwie edler.
Die Inhaltsangabe jedoch wirkt lieblos. Die beiden dramatischen Wörter mit Ausrufezeichen („Spionage!“ und „Neuer Alarm!“) trennen nur die verschiedenen Filme und bauen keine Spannung auf. Außerdem gibt es sehr viele Spoiler, die die Struktur des Films bereits vorwegnehmen (das Thema Streichholzschachtel). Die Trennung der beiden Filme ist wie folgt gelöst:
“Während Sherlock mit diesem Fall beschäftigt war, haben feindliche Agenten die Entführung von Dr. Tobel, dem Erfinder einer Geheimwaffe, vorbereitet.”
Erst habe ich gedacht, dass man hier „Moriarty“ falsch geschrieben hat, jedoch dieser tatsächlich im Film „Moriarity“ genannt wird. Kleinere Fehler wie „Dedektiv“ sind jedoch vorhanden.

Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission is the third movie program and the third compilation film and was published in the March issue 1959. Like the movie program, the movie was released on March 6th 1959 in the German cinemas. Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission is, like the previous two, merged from two Basil Rathbone movies: Sherlock Holmes in Washington and Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon. The German compilation film is lost.
Cover and content
If you have a look at the cover, this program is not as spectacular as the previous two and not as exciting. The eye contact between basil Rathbone and Marjorie Lord has a certain touch of excitement. I really like the font of the other ones but this time, the font is much more simple. A funny detail is the handwritten number of the issue on the right hand corner. It seems to me that it was handwritten and then copied.
On the backside you can see some scenes from the movies. The focus is the theme of hypnotism of Basil Rathbone and the scene of Nigel Bruce almost falling down from the roof.
The summary of Sherlock Holmes in geheimer Mission is not convincing and exciting. Two dramatic words („Spionage!“ / Espionage! and „Neuer Alarm!“ /New Alarm!) do not build up tension. Furthermore, the summary contains a lot of spoilers and give away most of the structure of the films (e.g. the hidden microfilm in the matchbox). The separation of the two films is stated as follows:
„Während Sherlock mit diesem Fall beschäftigt war, haben feindliche Agenten die Entführung von Dr. Tobel, dem Erfinder einer Geheimwaffe, vorbereitet.“ (trans.: “While Sherlock is busy with this case (matchbox case), hostile agents have kidnapped Dr. Tobel, the inventor of a secret weapon.”
First I thought that they made a mistake of writing „Moriarty“ as „Moriarity“ but he is called like this in the movie. Didn’t get that detail… But there were some minor mistakes such as „Dedektiv“ written with a „d“ instead of a „t“.
