Heute: Neues Film-Programm Nr. 4190 (1966)

Vorderseite

A Study in Terror wird hier chronologisch beschrieben.

Frontcover

To be honest: I do not like the frontcover of this movie magazine. If you have a look at the original British or American movie poster, which are just great (Sherlock Holmes with a pistol and many shots in the air…), this cover is just boring.Despite the fact that Sherlock Holmes wears an Inverness Cape and a deerstalker in the movie, here he wears a suit, bow tie and his mysterious walking stick (great in the movie!). At the bottom you can see one of the victims: Edina Ronay as Mary Kelly. A very big, mysterious Hand covers the body of Mary Kelly. All in all, the frontcover seems a bit dull, just like they put on different scenes of the film on top to each other (clear borders under the victim).

The font could also be more mysterious, horror-like. Sherlock Holmes is written in a more narrow and classic font while the rest is more cursive.

Inside

If you open the movie magazine, you can find the usual summary of A Study in Terror which is very detailed. Of the course the year is 1880, with Jack the Ripper and the first victims are described. Also the Osborne family is mentioned. In contrast to the previous movie magazines, this issue continues with the summary at the back.

Left you can see the cast of A Study in Terror. John Neville as Sherlock Holmes is just great and Donald Houston as Dr. Watson makes a decent job. Robert Morley as Mycroft Holmes is also good.

At the edges of the magazine you can find a lot of scenes from the movie. I really like the selection of these scenes. Beside the stereotypical Sherlock Holmes with a lens, a confused Watson and a potential clue, you can also find action scenes (fighting scenes) and also some horror scenes. A very good selection!

At the back

At the back the summary continues. I was really afraid that they would spoiler the identity of Jack the Ripper but this is not the case. A Study in Terror is just in a chronological order. Again, there are some scenes with a stereotypical Holmes in a thick Inverness Cape. Watson also wears another type of Cape. Furthermore, you can see two other characters of the movie like Peter Carsten as Max Steiner.

All in all, there are much better magazines out there (for instance the Der Hund von Baskerville). If you have a look at the original poster there could be a lot of potential. The selected scenes on the other hand are nice!
