Willkommen zu meiner kleinen Sherlock-Holmes-Sammlung! Unregelmäßig wird es hier kurze Beiträge geben und kurze Informationen erläutert werden. Aufgrund der Länge wird es diese Beiträge sowohl in Deutsch als auch auf Englisch geben.

Heute: Bank of Scotland £10 Banknote
Die Vorderseite bietet ein großes Porträt des Sherlock-Holmes-Erschaffers Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Im Hintergrund gibt es in sehr kleiner Schrift das Manuskript von Life on a Greenland Whaler, ein Bericht von Conan Doyle über seine siebenmonatige Reise als Chirurg des Walfangschiffs “Hope”. Dieser ist im The Strand Magazine 1897 mit Illustrationen erschienen.
Schaut man genau hin, so sieht man oben rechts in der Ecke vier tanzende Männchen. Ein erster Hinweis auf die Abenteuer von Sherlock Holmes. Jede dieser Banknoten hat eine eigene Nummer. Hier ist es die 000061.
Auf der Rückseite der Banknote sieht man das Walfangschiff “Hope” und zahlreiche kleine Eisberge, die im Wasser schwimmen. Sofort springt einem aber die Sherlock-Holmes-Statue ins Gesicht, die in Edinburgh steht.
Die Banknote hat folgende Beschreibung auf der Vorder- und Rückseite:

Laut Bank of Scotland gibt es 600 Stück und es handelt sich um eine “Fantasy-Banknote”.

On the front there is a big portrait of the creator of Sherlock Holmes: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In the background you can see, in very small writing, a manuscript of Life on a Greenland Whaler which is an account of Conan Doyle’s seven-month journey as a surgeon on the whaler “Hope”. This account was published in The Strand Magazine 1897 with several illustrations.
If you look closely, you can see four dancing men in the right hand corner. A first and clear indication of the Sherlock Holmes adventures. Every note of this kind has a unique serial number in red ink: Mine is 000061.
On the backside of the note you can see the whaler “Hope” and several small icebergs. The second indication of the world of Sherlock Holmes is the statue which is in Edinburgh.
The fantasy note has also several descriptions on the front and backcover:

According to the Bank of Scotland this note is limited to 600.
