#12 My Collection: Sherlock Holmes jagt den Teufel von Soho (Neues Film-Programm Nr. 895)

Heute: Neues Film-Programm Nr. 895 (1958)

Ich möchte in dieser Serie über meine Kollektion mit Sherlock-Holmes-Filmprogrammen starten, von denen ich einige besitze. Aufgrund der wirklich tollen Cover, den (teils) grandiosen Filmen und dem altertümlichen Papier, lohnt es sich diese ein wenig näher anzuschauen.

Betrachtet man den Titel Sherlock Holmes jagt den Teufel von Soho finde ich die deutsche Übersetzung absolut spannend und mysteriös. Problem an der Sache ist natürlich, dass es kein direktes englisches Original dazu gibt, sondern ein „Mischmasch“ von zwei Filmen ist. Dabei wurden Sherlock Holmes faces Death und The Pearl of Death zusammengeschnitten. Heraus kam dabei dann: Sherlock Holmes jagt den Teufel von Soho

Und das merkt man auch in der Beschreibung im Film-Programm. Da es laut meiner Recherche keine Aufnahme mehr gibt, beziehe ich mich daher nur auf die Beschreibung. Dort wird dies folgendermaßen beschrieben:

Noch bevor der Mörder hinter Schloß und Riegel gebracht wird und die glückliche Hochzeit stattfinden kann, muß Sherlock Holmes in Begleitung von Dr. Watson und dem Inspektor Lestrade die berühmte ‚Perle des Todes‘ ins Britische Museum bringen.

Das kann doch gar nicht sinnvoll und glaubwürdig sein? Wirklich, wirklich schade.

Weitere Details

Das Frontcover finde ich absolut gelungen und zusammen mit der schnörkeligen Schrift wirklich klasse. Auf dem Cover ist laut dem Filmprogramm Der Kriecher zu sehen. Außerdem wird ‚es‘ in der Beschreibung als schwachsinniges Scheusal beschrieben, was ich an der Stelle heftig und schwachsinnig unpassend finde. Auf der Rückseite befinden sich viele Eindrücke des Films. Man sieht sofort, dass mehrere Fotoschnipsel zusammengeschnitten und zusammengelegt worden sind. Meiner Meinung nach sehr authentisch.Ebenfalls sehr authentisch ist das Papier, welches sehr glatt und schon Altersspuren aufweist. Das Format müsste um die DIN A5 sein.

In this series of my collection, I would like to start with some German movie programs. I have a lot of them and because of the really nice covers, the layout and the old paper, it could be worth to show them to you.

• „Die Kinozeitschrift für das Publikum“ (trans.: „The movie magazine for the audience“)

If you have a look at the title Sherlock Holmes hunts the devil of Soho, I really think that it is really mysterious and exciting. You, as English readers, could wonder what kind of film this is. Ha! This German film is (unfortunately) a compilation film between Sherlock Holmes faces Death and The Pearl of Death with Basil Rathbone. Plus: the two movies got the new label Sherlock Holmes hunts the devil of Soho. Basically, it is a medley of two films.

You notice this immediately in the description. According to my research, there is no surviving material of this compilation film. In the program it says:

Even before the murderer is behind bars und the happy marriage can take place, Sherlock Holmes in company with Dr. Watson and the Inspector Lestrade has to bring the famous ‚Pearl of Death‘ back to the British Museum.

This appears to be not useful and implausible at all! A real, real shame.

Some more details

I really like the front cover and together with the great font of Sherlock Holmes jagt den Teufel von Soho it looks very mysteriös and haunting. On the cover you can see Der Kriecher(The Creeper) which is really quite nice. In the description, the monster is also called the imbecile beast. On the back cover you can see several impression of the (two) films. You can see the old technique of putting together individual photos (cut by hand). Very authentic! The paper which is very smooth and old is authentic as well. The format should be about DIN A5.

There will be some more film programs in the next issues! Be patient.
