Heute: Sherlock Holmes und das Halsband des Todes (Aushangfotos)
Ich liebe Sherlock-Holmes-Filme in jeglicher Form. Sei es nun die klassischen Abenteuer mit Jeremy Brett oder Basil Rathbone oder auch ausgefallene Filme wie Sherlock Holmes und das Halsband des Todes von 1962. Ich finde den Film, auch wenn er sehr viel Kritik einstecken musste, sehr unterhaltsam. Heute gibt es zu dem Film ein paar Aushangfotos von 1967 aus der ehemaligen DDR.
Aus meiner Sammlung habe ich insgesamt 6 Stück, die sich in der Größe unterscheiden. Drei kleinere (#2-#4) und drei größere Aushangfotos (#1, #6 und #10). Wie man in den jeweiligen Ecken erkennen kann, sind Einstichlöcher vorhanden.
Bis auf #3 zeigen alle Aushangfotos Sherlock Holmes in verschiedenen Situationen. #1 zeigt Holmes am Anfang in der Baker Street, #4 verkleidet in einem Tunnel, #6 mit Inverness Cap und Lupe und #10 zeigt Sherlock Holmes wieder verkleidet in den Gemächern von Moriarty.
Die Untertitel der jeweiligen Fotos sind zum Teil interessant:
- “Ein Kriminalfilm nach Motiven von Conan Doyle” (der Film basiert sehr lose auf Das Tal der Angst)
- “Ein neues Abenteuer des berühmten englischen Detektivs” (gibt es nichts hinzuzufügen)
- “Ein neuer Film über einen alten Helden” (wieso ist Sherlock ein alter Held? aktuell wie eh und je!)
Ich finde die Aushangfotos vermitteln den Charme des Films Sherlock Holmes und das Halsband des Todes gut. Durch das Schwarz-Weiß zeichnen sich gute Kontraste ab. Insbesondere Foto #6 zeigt das übertriebene Inverness-Cape mit besonders großem Muster. Der Deerstalker ist leider nicht zu sehen, obwohl er im Film vorhanden ist. (Natürlich im gleichen derben Muster!)
Auch Thorley Walters ist ein klasse Dr. Watson in dem Film. Er ist außerdem noch in anderen Sherlock Holmes Filmen zu sehen:
- The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother (1975) als Dr. Watson
- The Sign of the Four (1983) als Major John Sholto.

Today: Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace (German Lobby Cards)
I really love Sherlock-Holmes-films in any form whether they are the classic adventures with Jeremy Brett, Basil Rathbone or more special films like Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace (called Sherlock Holmes und das Halsband des Todes in German). I really like the film although it is often criticized. Today I would like to present some lobby cards from the former German Democratic Republic (1967).
In my collection, I have 6 different lobby cards which vary in size. Three smaller ones (#2-#4) and three bigger lobby cards (#1, #6 and #10). As you can see, there are some little holes in all corners from the cinema.
All lobby cards except #3 show Sherlock Holmes in different situations. #1 shows Holmes in Baker Street at the beginning of the film, #4 dressed in a tunnel, #6 with an inverness cape and a magnifying glass and #10 shows Sherlock Holmes again dressed in the house of Moriarty.
The subtitles of the lobby cards are quite interesting as well (translated):
- “A crime film with inspiration from Conan Doyle” (the film is loosely based on The Valley of Fear)
- “A new adventure with the famous English detective.” (nothing to add!)
- “A new film about an old hero” (why is Sherlock an old hero? Very modern too…!)
I really think that the lobby cards convey the atmosphere of the film quite well. The black/white cards show a good contrast. Especially #6 shows the very unique inverness cape of the film with very big patterns. The deerstalker is not shown in this lobby card but is also in the film (of course it has the same pattern!)
Furthermore, Thorley Walters is a good Watson. He can also be seen in other Sherlock Holmes films:

- The Sign of the Four (1983) als Major John Sholto.
